Not I, Said the Duck
I hate it when seizuring dogs ruin the punchline.

Just to clarify, yes it is after 4am, and yes I will be arriving in South Portland sometime late Sunday afternoon/evening in the company of my parents. I will remain there until Monday morning when Kali arrives at which time she and I will head up to varnum's (assuming no one else is currently occupying it) to relax and imbibe alcohol until Tuesday when Kali must return to Rhode Island and I will return to South Portland. I plan to not return to Boston until that Friday so I will be skulking around the greater Portland area for a few more days. :)

So, there was an actual dragon in the Stargate summer finale. I think the show has reach a new low with that one. I totally love it! And Atlantis? All I have to say is: turtles. That says it all.

Have I mentioned I'm on vacation?

So, one is harmless but a million can eat Larry?

Recently I've started watching this new Sci-Fi channel show Eureka. It's kinda cool... quirky, humorous, heartwarming... you know. Joe Morton is in it, he's always fun even if he has apparently been type-cast as a mad scientist... he plays a damn good one. And Colin Ferguson is very charming.

I think Mom would like it.

Work was intensely bizarre tonight. I had a cat on my side that was on the brink of death all night and had been for two days. It was fifteen years old, in end-stage renal failure and had both pleural and abdominal effusion (source unknown, probably cancer). It's BP was in the toilet, it could barely breathe and could not maintain a normal body temperature. This cat was a prime candidate for euthanasia. However. It's owner refused to have the cat put to sleep because (and this is the God's honest truth) the cat was her "Arabian master" and was too strong to die. Apparently, this cat "ravaged" her in the Saudi Arabian desert and she then had to trade some jewels and another man's wife to smuggle the cat out of the country and bring it to the United States where the cat frequently "talks to her" and will occasionally ask her husband to "leave the room" so she and the cat can have "alone time".

Okay really. I'm not making this up.

And the cat is still alive.

Sure, I'll have Pete Townsend's baby.

Um, so the Who concert was freakin amazing. Seriously. I got a little emotional. Elise had fun too. There was no smashing of guitars unfortunately but Daltry did destroy a tambourine during the encore which I thought was appropriate.

Oh my god it was so cool I can't get over it. Except I'm really tired so I'm going to bed. Good night!

Long live Alan McCullough.

Finally, someone this season writes a decent episode of Stargate SG1. Last night's ep was pretty damn awesome. Although it does lose a few points for a scene where a guy actually fires his gun in the vacuum of space (just before dying horribly from explosive decompression). I mean really. That's just absurd. But in general the episode was so far above its predecessors that I'm willing to forgive a little perversion of the laws of physics.

So, my cold is slowly improving and I've been going to work which some people still say is an error in judgment. This is how conversations have gone:

Me: Sal, can you help me with this thing?

Sal (my supervisor): Blow your nose first.

Me: Fuck you.

In all I think I have shown remarkable restraint.

Silence is the only true joy.

Dude, living in the city occasionally sucks ass. Particularly when my next door neighbors blast lame indie folk music for hours on end until I want to smash my head against the floor. At least they weren't singing along this morning but I'm getting over a cold so my tolerance is pretty low.

Fortunately, tomorrow night is The Who concert. :) Roger Daltry will cure all.

So, I just gotta say (even though no one really cares) Stargate Atlantis has been truly excellent lately. SG1 has been okay, but the Atlantis writers have really stepped up. All hail Martin Gero.

Yell to your horse.

Yes, it's true, I did it. I bought The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr. on DVD. I can't say I'm proud, but honestly, it was inevitable. I tried just Netflixing it but I realized very quickly that the show wasn't simply as good as I remembered... it was better. Really. It's a completely awesome show. Brisco is just so damn likable... all the characters are utterly charming with an amazing chemistry. Plus, you know, it's a cheesy sci-fi show with a cute male lead which is really all I need for entertainment. Anyway. I now own it. Sue me.

Never let it be said that a bludgeon-induced catatonia is preferable to an herbal one.

Worked a double Wednesday night. That was a trip. But coming in to work tonight on less than four hours sleep was sheer hell. I spent a good five minutes tonight yelling loudly at a piece of diagnostic equipment that kept giving me the error message of "bubbles" then proceeded to berate all of my co-workers in the room (including a veterinarian) for having the audacity to find me amusing.

Needless to say they found that even more amusing.

A sample of tonight's conversation:

Co-worker 1: This is 2.8ml of ketamine.

Co-worker 2: Can I inject it straight into my forehead?

Me: Word.

Really no one had a good night.
