Not I, Said the Duck |

Beatings will continue until morale improves.
Tonight, I came nanoseconds from either bursting into tears in the middle of CCU or telling one of the residents to go fuck herself.
Luckily, I had the presence of mind to leave the room before it came to that... although I kind of wish I had taken the second option and told off the doctor. I'm morbidly curious to know what would have happened. Tonight, for the first time since I started this job, I had myself a stiff drink when I got home. Yo no he visto gato prieto con sombrero y pantolon!
I found my stethoscope.
I'll hold that dog's penis for you.
Honestly, you haven't lived until someone has spoken those words to you. God bless, Ami.
Last night was a little crazy. I was floating in CCU and couldn't hit a peripheral vein to save my life until the end of the night, but I *did* manage to place my first central line. :):) I will still need a lot of practice before I'm in any way proficient at it but it's nice to know I can do it... it will come in handy if/when every senior nurse on our shift decides to quit. But aside from that personal accomplishment, the rest of the night was pretty much shot to hell. The only blessing was that we didn't have any real emergencies come in so we were able to maintain some semblance of order. Still, animals were ripping out their catheters (both urinary and IV), dogs were trying to bite, cats were outright homicidal, the sides were extremely busy and I kept tripping over my own two feet at the most inopportune moments (i.e. when everyone was watching). Oh, and I misplaced my stethoscope. Fortunately, I have the weekend off and tonight, acting on the advice of my supervisor who is doing the same, I may very well get drunk. Aren't you Buzz Lightyear?
Okay, so that last post was a little random and abrupt. I was interrupted while writing it by Melissa...
Not that I really had anything more to say. So I hear through the grapevine, such as it is, that our dear little Kali is back at school and currently involved in some kind of peer couseling/mentoring program where she is being trained to help first-year students at Holy Cross make responsible choices. I have to say... I didn't see this one coming. But maybe I would have if she'd CALL ME BACK!!!!! "Does your mother still hang out at dockside bars?"
There was a dog on my side that past two nights named "Uhura". I made it a point to note which people acknowledged the Star Trek reference... uh, besides myself... it was a sad few.
Lately I've been reading up on the history of organized crime in the Boston area, specifically Somerville. My neighborhood was pretty bad-ass once upon a time, though it seems so quiet and innocent now... relatively speaking. Kinda makes me wonder about Portland's criminal past. Maybe that will be my next little research project. "Hey Mickey you're so fine, you're so fine you blow my mind, Hey Mickey!"
I had two animals named Mickey on my side tonight. It was confusing at best.
I'm blame my most recent lack of blogging on the fact that our internet has been unreliable of late. However, that's kind of a cop-out. Mostly I've just been feeling antisocial. I was informed tonight that I've been misusing the word antisocial. Apparently truly antisocial behavior involves doing bad things like hurting or killing people and then feeling no remorse about it. I can't say I've ever exhibited such tendencies... but if I was going to, tonight would have been the night. Work has been rough lately, really busy, and my entire shift is seriously disgruntled... including myself. Something's gotta give, and soon. Everyone is kind of teetering on the edge sanity and several are actively looking for new jobs. It's going to be a fun few months until things settle down. The new Stargate season has yet to really impress me, although it has had its moments. And Atlantis has been pretty freakin' cool. I'd like to congratulate (only semi-sarcastically) the Stargate franchise on stepping out of it's almost openly homophobic traditions and actually showing two men kissing on screen. Not that these two men were actually gay... one was simply harboring the consciousness of a female colleague who had the hots for the other guy... however, honestly I never thought we'd see even that much and considering the show is being endorsed by the U.S. military, I gotta give them a little credit. And, you know, the episode was hilarious so they get props for that too. Oh, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was an entertaining movie for the most part, quite funny actually. Except for the squirrels. That was not funny at all. ::shudder:: |
